Restriction polymorphism of the mtDNA cytochrome b gene was studied in nine sable Martes zibellina L. populations from three introduction foci of Khabarovsk and Kamchatka sables in Magadan oblast: Olya, Kolyma, and Omolon. For comparison, similar studies were performed with the populations of central Kamchatka and Khabarovsk krai. In total, 444 DNA specimens were examined. Three mtDNA haplotypes (A, B, and C) proved to occur at various frequencies in the populations under study. The sable… Expand

Phylogeography of subspecies of the sable (Martes zibellina L.) based on mitochondrial genomes: implications for evolutionary history
Phylogeography of the sable is complicated by mass reintroductions that occurred in some areas of Russia from 1940 to 1970. We assessed phylogeny of the sable by sequence analysis of 75 mitogenomeExpand
Colonization history of the sable Martes zibellina (Mammalia, Carnivora) on the marginal peninsula and islands of northeastern Eurasia
We examined the nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase subunit 2 gene (976 base pairs) for 279 individuals of the sable Martes zibellina (Carnivora, Mustelidae), derived fromExpand
Genetic Diversity of the Sable (Martes zibellina, Mustelidae) in Russian Far East and Hokkaido Inferred from Mitochondrial NADH Dehydrogenase Subunit 2 Gene Sequences
TLDR
Evaluation of the genetic diversity of the sables demonstrated that populations in the southern Primorsky territory in Russian Far East harbors high genetic diversity, and molecular phylogenetic and network analyses clarified that sables in Hokkaido was monophyletic. Expand
Phylogeography of sable (Martes zibellina L. 1758) in the southeast portion of its range based on mitochondrial DNA variation: highlighting the evolutionary history of the sable
TLDR
The results suggest that the southeast sable range, being a refuge during Pleistocene glacial periods, can be considered the center of genetic diversification and possibly origin of this species. Expand
Geographical structure of the sable (Martes zibellina L.) gene pool on the basis of microsatellite loci analysis
TLDR
It is shown for the first time that populations from different regions of the sable habitation areal maintain their specific features despite the influence of natural and artificial migrations. Expand
Mitochondrial DNA markers for the study of introgression between the sable and the pine marten
TLDR
The low frequency of mitochondrial DNA haplotype A indicates a comparatively low portion of the Eastern lines in the current sable populations in Western Siberia, despite the introduction of a large number of Eastern sable subspecies. Expand
Intraspecific structure of sable Martes zibellina L. Inferred from nucleotide variation of the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome b gene
TLDR
A fragment of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) cytochrome b gene was sequenced in sable from Magadan oblast, Khabarovsk krai, and Kamchatka and the presence of two clusters, with the divergence value of 1.4%, indicated that split of the ancestral population took place in early Pleistocene. Expand
Geographic variation of the sable (Martes zibellina L., 1758) within the range, and phylogeography
TLDR
The observed pattern of phenotypic variation within the range represents the process of formation of the morphological appearance of populations in the course of postglacial radiation, i.e., reflects the phylogeography of the species. Expand
Topological conflicts in phylogenetic analysis of different regions of the sable (Martes zibellina L.) mitochondrial genome
TLDR
The most statistically significant topology is A-BC, which was obtained as a result of the analysis of the mitochondrial genome as a whole, as well as of the individual CO1, ND4, and ND5 genes. Expand
Analysis of the genetic structure of a farm-bred sable (Martes zibellina Linnaeus, 1758) population using microsatellite markers
TLDR
A first study of the industrial population of sable at six microsatellite loci was carried out; a number of population parameters (set of alleles, heterozygosity, etc.) were determined. Expand

Genetic variation of the mitochondrial DNA gene encoding cytochrome b in the Magadan population of sable Martes zibellina L
TLDR
The ratio of dominating haplotypes corresponds to the percentage of females introduced from Kamchatka and Khabarovsk Krai, which suggests that in the period which has elapsed both maternal lineages remained fairly unchanged. Expand
