The genetic diversity and genetic relatedness of mei (Prunus mume; 2n = 16) were studied using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers. Eight EcoRI–PstI AFLP primer combinations were applied to 121 distinct genotypes of mei cultivars and related species. A total of 508 AFLP product bands were produced, of which 382 were polymorphic.
