}Data from 364 ewes of Sardi (S), D'man (D), S x DS, DS x S, S x D, D x S (F1), F2, D x DS and DS x D breed groups mated to F1 rams were analyzed for fertility, number of lambs born alive, litter size at weaning, litter weight at weaning per ewe joined and mean lamb weight at 60 d. Each ewe was exposed in two seasons and had one or two lambings. Effects of breed group were significant for all traits. The highest number of lambs born alive and litter size at weaning were recorded in D'man (1.84…

D as a dam breed had a favourable effect on litter size and could enhance lamb production in Morocco, and lamb survival rates and growth traits were the lowest in D ✕ D but those in T ✕ T and D✕ T genetic types of lamb were intermediate.

It is indicated that a population produced by inter se mating of animals 50% D, 50% S breeding is expected to have higher total lamb production than either purebred.

Results show that models for genetic evaluation for BWT and WWT should include maternal genetic effects for ADG in either sex and that selection for daily gain will result in increases in mature weight but that BWT is not correlated with weight at 31 mo.

Ewe performance was compared for five pure breeds of sheep and the crosses in development of two maternal composite lines and decline in heterosis with inter se mating of crosses was no greater than expected from the reduction in predicted heterozygosity.
