Six Sarcocystis species, i.e. Sarcocystis grueneri, Sarcocystis rangi, Sarcocystis tarandivulpes, Sarcocystis hardangeri, Sarcocystis rangiferi and Sarcocystis tarandi have previously been described from reindeer based on sarcocyst morphology.
