  • Abstract Inflammasome protein complexes mediate processing of the pro-inflammatory cytokines, IL-1β and IL-18. A combination of translational research advances led to the identification of mutations in the NLRP3 gene coding for the inflammasome protein, cryopyrin, and causing the inherited, autoinflammatory diseases known as cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes (CAPS).
