Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.) is an important underutilised legume crop, grown mainly by female subsistence farmers in Africa under traditional low input agricultural systems. Bambara groundnut is known as being of high nutritional value, as an atmospheric nitrogen fixer and to possess high levels of drought, pest and disease tolerance.
