In Dictyostelium discoideum, there exist genes which regulate the timing of developmental events. In one class of these rapidly developing (rde) mutants, the rate of development is accelerated, resulting in the formation of spores and stalk cells in about 2/3 of the time required for the parent. Linkage analysis of one of the rde strains, HTY506, demonstrated that rdeC1850, carried by the mutant is located on linkage group III. Therefore HTY506 differs genetically from the strain FR17, the…

Biochemical and genetic characterization of a rapid-development strain in Dictyostelium discoideum.
TLDR
The rates of development of six wild-type and rapid-development strains of Dictyostelium discoideum and the genetic background of strain HT100 suggest that HT100 differs from strains NC4 and HU1231 primarily in the process of aggregation.
Integration of signaling networks that regulate Dictyostelium differentiation.
TLDR
This review focuses on the role of cAMP, which functions intracellularly to mediate the activity of PKA, an essential component in aggregation, cell-type specification, and terminal differentiation in Dictyostelium development.
Dictyostelium development in the absence of cAMP.
TLDR
Moderate expression of the catalytic subunit of PKA in adenylyl cyclase-null cells led to near-normal development without detectable accumulation of cAMP, suggesting that all intracellular cAMP signaling is effected through PKA and that signals other than extracellularcAMP coordinate morphogenesis in Dictyostelium.
Genetics of early Dictyostelium discoideum development.
TLDR
This chapter discusses the development of developmentally regulated proteins and the regulation of these proteins through various mechanisms, including adaptive and nonadaptive regulation.

Genetics of aggregation pattern mutations in the cellular slime mould Dictyostelium discoideum.
TLDR
A class of aggregation pattern mutants called 'streamers' have been isolated from Dictyostelium discoideum and analysed genetically and it is estimated that the total number of complementation groups giving the streamer phenotype is estimated to be between seven and nine.
Parasexual genetics in Dictyostelium discoideum: mitotic analysis of acriflavin resistance and growth in axenic medium.
TLDR
Preliminary results for two linkage groups show that the sequence of genes on a linkage group can be determined by analysis of homozygous drug resistant diploid obtained by drug selection from diploids heterozygous for recessive drug resistance markers.
Differentiation of Dictyostelium discoideum mutant cells in a shaken suspension culture and the effect of cyclic AMP.
TLDR
The results suggest that the biochemical steps in the development of the mutant in a shaken suspension are essentially the same as those of the parental strain X2 on a solid surface.
Linkage analysis in Dictyostelium discoideum using multiply marked tester strains: establishment of linkage group VII and the reassessment of earlier linkage data.
TLDR
To aid linkage analysis and mapping studies in Dictyostelium discoideum, several tester strains with easily scored mutations characterizing the six currently identified linkage groups are constructed.
