BACKGROUND Intracranial atherosclerosis of the anterior circulation (anterior ICAS) and intracranial atherosclerosis of the posterior circulation (posterior ICAS) are thought to involve different pathogeneses and risk factors. Recently, we identified a genetic variant that has a significant association with ICAS.
