We unravel some subtleties involving the definition of sphere angular momentum charges in AdSq × Sp spacetimes, or equivalently, R-symmetry charges in the dual boundary CFT. In the AdS3 context, it is known that charges can be generated by coordinate transformations, even though the underlying theory is diffeomorphism invariant. This is the bulk version of spectral flow in the boundary CFT. We trace this behavior back to special properties of the p-form field strength supporting the solution…
Fundamental strings, holography and nonlinear superconformal algebras
We discuss aspects of holography in the AdS3 × S p near string geometry of a collection of straight fundamental heterotic strings. We use anomalies and symmetries to determine general features of the
Spacetime and Matter in Three-Dimensional Higher Spin Gravity
We investigate the physical content of three-dimensional higher spin gravity, a sophisticated toy model of high energy string theory. Starting from spin-3 gravity and working our way toward the
Un-twisting the NHEK with spectral flows
A bstractWe show that the six-dimensional uplift of the five-dimensional Near-Horizon-Extremal-Kerr (NHEK) spacetime can be obtained from an AdS3 × S3 solution by a sequence of supergravity — but not
Nonperturbative black hole entropy and Kloosterman sums
A bstractNon-perturbative quantum corrections to supersymmetric black hole entropy often involve nontrivial number-theoretic phases called Kloosterman sums. We show how these sums can be obtained
Scalar fields and three-point functions in D = 3 higher spin gravity
A bstractWe compute boundary three-point functions involving two scalars and a gauge field of arbitrary spin in the AdS vacuum of Vasiliev’s higher spin gravity, for any deformation parameter λ. In
Which AdS3 Configurations Contribute to the SCFT2 Elliptic Genus
According to the AdS=CFT duality, the superconformal index of a superconformal eld theory should have an AdS interpretation as a Euclidean functional integral with periodic boundary conditions on the
Holographic F-theory
The central theme of this thesis is Type IIB supergravity solutions and their field theory duals. The uniqueness of our set up is the inclusion of an AdS factor in the geometry. In traditional
Four-dimensional black hole entropy from F-theory
A bstractWe study the central charges and levels of a two-dimensional N = (0, 4) superconformal field theory describing four-dimensional BPS black holes in F-theory. These arise from D3-branes
Gravity duals of cyclic RG flows, with strings attached
In this note, we propose gravity duals for 3+1 dimensional Lorentz invariant theories exhibiting discrete scale invariance. We construct non-singular solutions of a six dimensional gravitational
Lectures on Black Holes and the AdS3/CFT2 Correspondence
We present a detailed discussion of AdS_3 black holes and their connection to two-dimensional conformal field theories via the AdS/CFT correspondence. Our emphasis is on deriving refined versions of

Comparison between various notions of conserved charges in asymptotically AdS spacetimes
We derive Hamiltonian generators of asymptotic symmetries for general relativity with asymptotic AdS boundary conditions using the ‘covariant phase space’ method of Wald et al. We then compare our
Thermodynamics of Asymptotically Locally AdS Spacetimes
We formulate the variational problem for AdS gravity with Dirichlet boundary conditions and demonstrate that the covariant counterterms are necessary to make the variational problem well-posed. The
The holographic Weyl anomaly
We calculate the Weyl anomaly for conformal field theories that can be described via the adS/CFT correspondence. This entails regularizing the gravitational part of the corresponding supergravity
A Stress Tensor for Anti-de Sitter Gravity
Abstract:We propose a procedure for computing the boundary stress tensor associated with a gravitating system in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space. Our definition is free of ambiguities encountered
Holographic currents in first order Gravity and finite Fefferman-Graham expansions
We study the holographic currents associated to Chern-Simons theories. We start with an example in three dimensions and find the holographic representations of vector and chiral currents reproducing
Kaluza-Klein Holography
We construct a holographic map between asymptotically AdS5 × S5 solutions of 10d supergravity and vacuum expectation values of gauge invariant operators of the dual QFT. The ingredients that enter in
Non-abelian tensor-multiplet anomalies
We use the anomaly cancellation of the M-theory fivebrane to derive the R-symmetry anomalies of the AN (0,2) tensor-multiplet theories. This result leads to a simple derivation of black hole entropy
AdS3 black holes and a stringy exclusion principle
The duality relating near-horizon microstates of black holes obtained as orbifolds of a subset of AdS3 to the states of a conformal field theory is analyzed in detail. The SL(2,R)L?SL(2,R)R invariant
Gravitational anomaly cancellation for M-theory fivebranes
We study gravitational anomalies for fivebranes in M theory. We show that an apparent anomaly in diffeomorphisms acting on the normal bundle is cancelled by a careful treatment of the M theory
Microscopic black hole entropy in theories with higher derivatives
We discuss higher derivative corrections to black hole entropy in theories that allow a near horizon AdS3 × X geometry. In arbitrary theories with diffeomorphism in- variance we show how to obtain
