We show that the Dirac equation for real spinors can be naturally decomposed into a system of two first-order relativistic wave equations. The decomposition separates in a transparent way the real and imaginary parts of the Dirac equation by means of two algebraic differential operators, allowing to describe real spinors in any representation of the Dirac matrices maintaining the reality condition $\tilde{\Psi}=\tilde{\Psi}^{*}$ unaltered. In addition, it is shown that the Majorana wave…

In the textbook proofs of the Lorentz covariance of the Dirac equation, one treats the wave function as a spinor and gamma matrices as scalars, leading to a quite complicated formalism with several

High-resolution spectroscopic imaging techniques show that the onset of superconductivity, which gaps the electronic density of states in the bulk of the Fe chains, is accompanied by the appearance of zero-energy end-states, providing strong evidence for the formation of a topological phase and edge-bound Majorana fermions in atomic chains.
