A female, neutered, one year old, Miniature Schnauzer presented to the first opinion veterinary surgeon lethargic and depressed. Clinical examination detected generalised lymphadenopathy. The bitch’s temperature was within normal limits. A blood sample was taken for haematology and biochemical evaluation. Following euthanasia and necropsy, histiocytic cells containing acid-fast bacilli were found throughout the gastrointestinal tract, mesenteric and peripheral lymph nodes, spleen, liver, kidney and lungs.
Infection of a Dog with Mycobacterium avium Serotype II

A 7-year-old male, black Labrador Retriever dog had a shifting leg lameness and reduced exercise tolerance for 2 to 3 days and because of marked splenomegaly a splenectomy was done, there was massive infiltration of most body tissues, especially spleen, bone marrow, lymph nodes, palatine tonsils and periportal areas of the liver.
Tuberculosis in five basset hounds.
TLDR
A review of canine tuberculosis revealed a similar diagnosis in a Basset Hound, and the association of this infection in Basset Hounds suggests an inherited immunologic defect in cell-mediated immunity.
