A general covariant extension of Einstein’s field equations is considered with a view to Numerical Relativity applications. The basic variables are taken to be the metric tensor and an additional four-vector. The extended field equations, when supplemented by suitable coordinate conditions, deter-mine the time evolution of all these variables without any constraint. Einstein’s solutions are recovered when the additional four-vector vanishes, so that the energy and momentum constraints hold true…

TLDR
The sufficient conditions required for the PDEs of the system to guarantee the constraint preservation are established, and it is shown that the constraint evolution equations are unique in the Maxwell case and a family in the wave equation case.

Binary Black Hole Coalescence
The two-body problem in general relativity is reviewed, focusing on the final stages of the coalescence of the black holes as uncovered by recent successes in numerical solution of the field
