Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disorder in which endogenous sex hormones may contribute to sex-dependent etiologies. We hypothesized that genetic variants related to type 2 diabetes mellitus might differ between men and women. We thus performed a large-scale association study to identify gene polymorphisms associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in men and women separately.
