Abstract Gender dysphoria (GD) is a facet of modern human biology which is believed to be derived from the sexual differentiation of the brain. GD “involves a conflict between a person’s physical or assigned gender and the gender with which he/she/they identify”, as defined in the DSM-5. Individuals report feeling uncomfortable and faced with prejudice from those around them, affecting their mental health. Elucidating the relationship between genetic influences on gonadal and brain development… Expand

TLDR
The reassigned gender in 46, XY DSD patients is consistent with their gender role during early childhood and the molecular diagnosis, gonadal function, and the gender reassignment are congruent within this Chinese cohort. Expand
Psychiatric Disorders in Female Psychosexual Disorders—A Nationwide, Cohort Study in Taiwan
TLDR
Female patients with psychosexual disorders were associated with the risk of psychiatric disorders, and this finding could be a reminder for clinicians about the mental health problems in the patients with Psychosexual disorders. Expand

Regional volumes and spatial volumetric distribution of gray matter in the gender dysphoric brain
TLDR
It is indicated that GM distribution and regional volumes in GD adolescents are largely in accordance with their respective natal sex, however, there are subtle deviations from the natalsex in sexually dimorphic structures, which can represent signs of a partial sex-atypical differentiation of the brain. Global Disorders of Sex Development Update since 2006: Perceptions, Approach and Care
The goal of this update regarding the diagnosis and care of persons with disorders of sex development (DSDs) is to address changes in the clinical approach since the 2005 Consensus Conference, sinceExpand
Genetic and Environmental Influences on Female Sexual Orientation, Childhood Gender Typicality and Adult Gender Identity
TLDR
A large sample of British female twins completed a questionnaire assessing sexual attraction, CGT and AGI indicated that a single latent variable influenced by a genetic component and common non-shared environmental component explained the association between the three traits but there was substantial measurement error. Molecular basis of Gender Dysphoria: androgen and estrogen receptor interaction
TLDR
The data show that specific allele and genotype combinations of ERβ, ERα and AR are implicated in the genetic basis of transsexualism, and that MtF gender development requires AR, which must be accompanied by ERβ. Expand
Effects of Estradiol Therapy on Resting-State Functional Connectivity of Transgender Women After Gender-Affirming Related Gonadectomy
TLDR
Results indicate that CSHT with estradiol post-GAS, modulates rs-FC in regions engaged in cognitive, emotional, and sensorimotor processes. Expand
Regional Grey Matter Structure Differences between Transsexuals and Healthy Controls—A Voxel Based Morphometry Study
TLDR
Structural MRI data with voxel based morphometry obtained from both FTM and MTF transsexuals are analyzed and support the notion that structural brain differences exist between transsexual and healthy control subjects and that majority of these structural differences are dependent on the biological gender. Support for sex differences in the brain as they relate to anxiety, depression, psychosis, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity symptoms is focused on. Expand
The Heritability of Gender Identity Disorder in a Child and Adolescent Twin Sample
TLDR
The heritability and prevalence of the gender identity disorder was examined, as well as its comorbidity with separation anxiety and depression, in a nonretrospective study of child and adolescent twins, supporting the hypothesis that there is a strong heritable component to GID. Expand
Surgery in disorders of sex development (DSD) with a gender issue: If (why), when, and how?

There is, however, little evidence provided regarding the impact of non-treated DSD during childhood for the individual development, the parents, society and the risk of stigmatization. Expand
The Genetics of Disorders of Sex Development in Humans
