We construct the most general couplings of a bulk seven-dimensional Yang-Mills-Einstein $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity with a boundary six-dimensional chiral $\mathcal{N}=(0,1)$ theory of vectors and charged hypermultiplets. The boundary consists of two brane worlds sitting at the fixed points of an ${\mathbf{S}}^{1}/{\mathbb{Z}}_{2}$ compactification of the seven-dimensional bulk supergravity. The resulting 6D massless spectrum surviving the orbifold projection is anomalous. By introducing…

Five-dimensional Yang-Mills-Einstein supergravity on orbifolds: Parity assignments

We discuss the options for parity assignments in (on-shell) $\mathcal{N}=2$ five-dimensional Yang-Mills-Einstein supergravity theories (YMESGTs) coupled to tensor and hypermultiplets on the orbifold

Multiple M5-branes, String 2-connections, and 7d nonabelian Chern-Simons theory

The worldvolume theory of coincident M5-branes is expected to contain a nonabelian 2-form/nonabelian gerbe gauge theory that is a higher analog of self-dual Yang-Mills theory. But the precise details

Heterotic and M-theory Compactifications for String Phenomenology

In this thesis, we explore two approaches to string phenomenology. In the first half of the work, we investigate M-theory compactifications on spaces with co-dimension four, orbifold singularities.

D=7/D=6 heterotic supergravity with gauged R-symmetry

We construct a family of chiral anomaly-free supergravity theories in D =6 starting from D = 7 supergravity with a gauged noncompact R-symmetry, employing a Hořava-Witten bulk-plus-boundary

Dyonic String With Active

We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a Killing spinor in N = (1, 0) gauge supergravity in six dimensions coupled to a single tensor multiplet, vector multiplets and

6D dyonic string with active hyperscalars

We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a Killing spinor in N = (1,0) gauge supergravity in six dimensions coupled to a single tensor multiplet, vector multiplets and

Anomaly-Free Supergravities in Six Dimensions

This thesis reviews minimal N=2 chiral supergravities coupled to matter in six dimensions with emphasis on anomaly cancellation. In general, six-dimensional chiral supergravities suffer from

M theory on the orbifold C 2 /Z N

We construct M theory on the orbifold C{sup 2}/Z{sub N} by coupling 11-dimensional supergravity to a seven-dimensional Yang-Mills theory located on the orbifold fixed plane. It is shown that the

M-Theory on Manifolds with G2 Holonomy

AbstractWe study M-theory on G 2 holonomy spaces that are constructed by dividing a seven-torus bysome discrete symmetry group. We classify possible group elements that may be used in

Noncompact gaugings, chiral reduction and dual sigma models in supergravity

We show that the half-maximal SU(2) gauged supergravity with a topological mass term admits coupling of an arbitrary number of n vector multiplets. The chiral circle reduction of the ungauged theory

On heterotic orbifolds, M theory and type I' brane engineering

Horava-Witten M theory↔ heterotic string duality poses special problems for the twisted sectors of heterotic orbifolds. In our previous paper [1] we explained how in M theory the twisted states

Vector-tensor duality in the five dimensional supersymmetric Green-Schwarz mechanism

The five dimensional version of the Green-Schwarz mechanism can be invoked to cancel U(1) anomalies on the boundaries of brane world models. In five dimensions there are two dual descriptions that
