Specific pathologic processes, particularly oral, esophageal, and intestinal infections, are common in the alimentary tract of AIDS patients. Many of these diseases are adequately assessed only by biopsy with histologic examination. Most are rare or unreported in immunocompetent hosts and are easily missed by those not familiar with them.
