Gametogenesis in the dragonfishes Akarotaxis nudiceps and Bathydraco marri (Pisces, Notothenioidei: Bathydraconidae) from the Ross Sea
@article{Mesa2007GametogenesisIT, title={Gametogenesis in the dragonfishes Akarotaxis nudiceps and Bathydraco marri (Pisces, Notothenioidei: Bathydraconidae) from the Ross Sea}, author={Mario La Mesa and Vincenzo Caputo and Joseph T. We analysed histological characteristics of gonads and reproductive effort of the small deep-living dragonfishes Akarotaxis nudiceps (Waite) and Bathydraco marri Norman collected in the south-western Ross Sea. From a macroscopic point of view, most specimens of B. marri were juveniles in early stages of gonad maturity, except for a maturing female. Conversely, the sample of A. nudiceps was composed of both immature and adult fish in different stages of maturity. A single A. nudiceps female was…

Oocyte development and ovarian maturation of the black triggerfish, Melichthys niger(Actinopterygii: Balistidae) in São Pedro e São Paulo Archipelago, Brazil

The identification of five oocyte development stages in the ovarians from M. niger suggested that the specie follows a pattern similar to that described for other marine fish.
Biology of the Antarctic dragonfish Vomeridens infuscipinnis (Notothenioidei: Bathydraconidae)
- Environmental ScienceAntarctic Science
- 2010
Inferences from measurements of buoyancy and from morphological data suggest that Vomeridens lives in an epibenthic water column habitat at 400–900 m, and is likely to forage in the water column by hovering above the substrate.

- 2012
A preliminary study on reproductive biology of estuarine catfish, Arius argyropleuron was conducted using samples collected from Merbok estuary which is located in the northern part of peninsular Malaysia, showing that the fish matured throughout the year.
Reproductive strategy of deep-sea and Antarctic octopods of the genera Graneledone, Adelieledone and Muusoctopus (Mollusca: Cephalopoda)
- Environmental Science
- 2013
It is demonstrated that the size distribu- tion of post-ovulatory follicles (POF) is mostly unimodal, suggesting that they only lay 1 batch of eggs, and that deep-sea and polar benthic octopods are generally not multiple spawners.
Life history traits of rare Antarctic dragonfishes from the Weddell Sea

Abstract The life history traits of bathydraconids, deep-living fishes distributed all around the Antarctic continent, are poorly known. In particular, very few data are available on the relatively…
First case of possible iteroparity among coleoid cephalopods: the giant warty squid Kondakovia longimana
- Environmental Science

The capture of a large female of the giant warty squid Kondakovia longimana Filippova, 1972 questions this established point of view and restricts the possibility of iteroparity to those few cephalopods that live for many years.

The morphological studies of T. puta indicate that the maturity stages of the ovaries could be divided into three stages, namely: the pre- spawning, the spawning and the post-spawning stages.
Reproductive Performance of Carica papaya, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and Ipomoea batatas on Female African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus)
- BiologyBiotechnology Journal International
- 2018
The findings of this study suggest that C. papaya seeds, hibiscus leaves and sweet potato leaves have the potential to impair reproductive performance in female African catfish and holistic measures should always be taken when using these plants considering the effect it could exert on other aquatic inhabitants and systems.
Light and electron microscope structural study of the zona radiata in the oocyte of zebrafish (Danio rerio).
- BiologyMicroscopy
- 2013
The zona radiata (ZR) is a non- cellular envelope over oolemma of teleost fish oocytes that varies in different ovarian developmental stages and also among various fish species, which reflects adaptation to ecological conditions.

First data on the reproductive characteristics of these two plunderfishes are presented, including gametogenesis, spawning period and absolute fecundity, which are compared with those reported in literature for other artedidraconids.
Reproductive biology of the icefish Champsocephalus esox (Günther, 1861) (Channichthyidae)
- BiologyAntarctic Science
- 1999
In C. esox, relative fecundity has a similar range to those quoted for the different C. gunnari populations, Whilst mature oocyte diameter is small and reproductive season extended compared to the same parameters in other Channichthyidae, a transfer of matter from liver to the gonads is suggested.
