Three bisexual Pratylenchus species, P. penetrans, P. vulnus and P. coffeae have n = 5, 6 and 7 chromosomes, respectively, and reproduce by cross-fertilization. The monosexual P. scribneri comprises two chromosomal and reproductive forms. One has n = 6 chromosomes and reproduces by meiotic parthenogenesis, the other has a somatic chromosome number of approximately 25 and reproduces by mitotic parthenogenesis.
