We construct four-dimensional effective field theories of a generalized DBI galileon field, the dynamics of which naturally take place on a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime. The theories are invariant under non-linear symmetry transformations, which can be thought of as being inherited from five-dimensional bulk Killing symmetries via the probe brane technique through which they are constructed. The resulting model provides a framework in which to explore the cosmological role that…

On the flat spacetime Galileons and the Born–Infeld type structures
We show how the flat spacetime Galileon field theories (FSGFT) in arbitrary dimensions can be obtained through a Born–Infeld (BI) type structure. This construction involves a brane metric and
Galileons coupled to massive gravity: general analysis and cosmological solutions
We further develop the framework for coupling galileons and Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) scalar fields to a massive graviton while retaining both the non-linear symmetries of the scalars and ghost-freedom
Covariant Master Theory for Novel Galilean Invariant Models and Massive Gravity
Coupling the galileons to a curved background has been a tradeoff between maintaining second order equations of motion, maintaining the galilean shift symmetries, and allowing the background metric
DBI Galileon and Late time acceleration of the universe
We consider 1+3 dimensional maximally symmetric Minkowski brane embedded in a 1+4 dimensional maximally symmetric Minkowski background. The resulting 1+3 dimensional effective field theory is of DBI
DBI realizations of the pseudo-conformal universe and Galilean Genesis scenarios
The pseudo-conformal universe is an alternative to inflation in which the early universe is described by a conformal field theory on approximately flat space-time. The fields develop time-dependent
Conditions for the cosmological viability of the most general scalar-tensor theories and their applications to extended Galileon dark energy models
In the Horndeski's most general scalar-tensor theories with second-order field equations, we derive the conditions for the avoidance of ghosts and Laplacian instabilities associated with scalar,
Dynamical analysis of generalized Galileon cosmology
We perform a detailed dynamical analysis of generalized Galileon cosmology, incorporating also the requirements of ghost and instabilities absence. We find that there are not any new stable late-time
Spherical collapse in covariant Galileon theory
In this paper we study the evolution of a spherical matter overdensity in the context of the recently introduced Galileon field theory. Our analysis considers the complete covariant Lagrangian in

Generalizing Galileons
The Galileons are a set of terms within four-dimensional effective field theories, obeying symmetries that can be derived from the dynamics of a 3 + 1-dimensional flat brane embedded in a
Covariant Galileon
Abstract We consider the recently introduced “galileon” field in a dynamical spacetime. When the galileon is assumed to be minimally coupled to the metric, we underline that both field equations of
Resummation of massive gravity.
TLDR
Four-dimensional covariant nonlinear theories of massive gravity are constructed which are ghost-free in the decoupling limit to all orders, and the Hamiltonian constraint is maintained at least up to and including quartic order in nonlinearities, hence excluding the possibility of the Boulware-Deser ghost up to this order.
De Sitter Galileon
We generalize the Galileon symmetry and its relativistic extension to a de Sitter background. This is made possible by studying a probe-brane in a flat five-dimensional bulk using a de Sitter
New class of effective field theories from embedded branes.
TLDR
A new general class of four-dimensional effective field theories with interesting global symmetry groups arise from purely gravitational actions for (3+1)-dimensional branes embedded in higher dimensional spaces with induced gravity terms, which may prove relevant to the cosmology of both the early and late universe.
Mimicking Λ with a spin-two ghost condensate
We propose a simple higher-derivative braneworld gravity model which contains a stable accelerating branch, in the absence of a cosmological constant or potential, that can be used to describe the
Introducing the Slotheon: a slow Galileon scalar field in curved space-time
In this paper we define covariant Galilean transformations in curved spacetime and find all scalar field theories invariant under this symmetry. The Slotheon is a Galilean invariant scalar field with
Symmetries for Galileons and DBI scalars on curved space
We introduce a general class of four-dimensional effective field theories which include curved space Galileons and DBI theories possessing nonlinear shift-like symmetries. These effective theories
Galileon inflation
Galileon inflation is a radiatively stable higher derivative model of inflation. The model is determined by a finite number of relevant operators which are protected by a covariant generalization of
Self-accelerating universe in Galileon cosmology
We present a cosmological model with a solution that self-accelerates at late times without signs of ghost instabilities on small scales. The model is a natural extension of the Brans-Dicke (BD)
