Comets in the Oort cloud evolve under the influence of internal and external perturbations, such as giant planets, stellar passages, and the Galactic gravitational tidal field. We aim to study the dynamical evolution of the comets in the Oort cloud, accounting for the perturbation of the Galactic tidal field and passing stars. We base our study on three main approaches; analytic, observational, and numerical. We first construct an analytical model of stellar encounters. We find that individual…
Oort cloud Ecology
We simulate the formation and evolution of Oort clouds around the 200 nearest stars (within ∼16 pc according to the Gaia DR2) database. This study is performed by numerically integrating the planets
Generation of Unbound Comets and Planets by Planetary Systems
We present a three-dimensional model of the evolution of the asteroid–cometary–planetary (ACP) component of the Solar System under the gravitational influence of Jupiter. We demonstrate the origin of
Study of Close Stellar Encounters with the Solar System Based on Data from the Gaia EDR3 Catalogue
Abstract We have studied stellar candidates for close (within 1 pc) encounters with the Solar system. For all of the stars under consideration the kinematic characteristics have been taken from the
Dynamics of Planetary Systems within Star Clusters: Aspects of the Solar System’s Early Evolution
Most planetary systems—including our own—are born within stellar clusters, where interactions with neighboring stars can help shape the system architecture. This paper develops an orbit-averaged
Oort cloud Ecology
Jan Hendrik Oort hypothesized the existence of a distant cloud of cometary objects that orbit the Sun based on a spike in the reciprocal orbital separation at 1∕a  ≲  10−4 au−1. The Oort cloud is the
Analysis of Close Stellar Encounters with the Solar System
We consider 36 candidates for close (within 1 pc) encounters with the Solar system. These stars have been selected in accordance with the results of an analysis of their motion obtained by various
Linking the formation and fate of exo-Kuiper belts within Solar system analogues
<p>Escalating observations of exo-minor planets and their destroyed remnants both passing through the Solar system and within white dwarf planetary systems motivate an understanding of the orbital
Solar System Encounters with Open Star Clusters
Abstract The time and minimum distances of approaches were calculated more than 100 open star clusters (OSCs) near the Solar System over the past 5 Myr. It was shown that the closest proximity of the
The Field Substellar Mass Function Based on the Full-sky 20 pc Census of 525 L, T, and Y Dwarfs
We present final Spitzer trigonometric parallaxes for 361 L, T, and Y dwarfs. We combine these with prior studies to build a list of 525 known L, T, and Y dwarfs within 20 pc of the Sun, 38 of which
TOI-1231 b: A Temperate, Neptune-sized Planet Transiting the Nearby M3 Dwarf NLTT 24399
We report the discovery of a transiting, temperate, Neptune-sized exoplanet orbiting the nearby (d = 27.5 pc), M3V star TOI-1231 (NLTT 24399, L 248-27, 2MASS J10265947-5228099). The planet was

EFFECT OF STELLAR ENCOUNTERS ON COMET CLOUD FORMATION
We have investigated the effect of stellar encounters on the formation and disruption of the Oort cloud using the classical impulse approximation. We calculate the evolution of a planetesimal disk
Close encounters of the stellar kind
Stars which pass close to the Sun can perturb the Oort cloud, injecting comets into the inner solar system where they may collide with the Earth. Using van Leeuwen's re-reduction of the Hipparcos
Effect of different stellar galactic environments on planetary discs – I. The solar neighbourhood and the birth cloud of the Sun
We have computed trajectories, distances and times of closest approaches to the Sun by stars in the solar neighbourhood with known position, radial velocity and proper motions. For this purpose, we
Dynamics of the Oort Cloud In the Gaia Era I: Close Encounters
Abstract Comets in the Oort cloud evolve under the influence of internal and external perturbations from giant planets to stellar passages, the Galactic tides, and the interstellar medium.Using the
Stellar Encounters with the Oort Cloud Based on Hipparcos Data
We have combined Hipparcos proper-motion and parallax data for nearby stars with ground-based radial velocity measurements to find stars that may have passed (or will pass) close enough to the Sun to
The completeness-corrected rate of stellar encounters with the Sun from the first Gaia data release
I report on close encounters of stars to the Sun found in the first Gaia data release (GDR1). Combining Gaia astrometry with radial velocities of around 320 000 stars drawn from various catalogues, I
Long-term effects of the Galactic tide on cometary dynamics
We introduce a model for integrating the effects of Galactic tides on Oort cloud comets, which involves two procedures, according to the values of the osculating semi-major axis a and eccentricity e.
The rate of stellar encounters along a migrating orbit of the Sun
The frequency of Galactic stellar encounters the Solar system experienced depends on the local density and velocity dispersion along the orbit of the Sun in the Milky Way galaxy. We aim at
Stellar encounters with the solar system
We continue our search, based on Hipparcos data, for stars which have encountered or will encounter the solar system (Garcia-Sanchez et al. [CITE]). Hipparcos parallax and proper motion data are
Stellar perturbations on the scattered disk
We present a statistical model for estimating the effects of stellar encounters on orbits in the outer Solar System, focussing on the scattered disk at <10 3 AU from the Sun. We describe a Monte
