In the brane world scenario the four-dimensional effective Einstein equation has extra source terms, which arise from the embedding of the three-brane in the bulk. These non-local effects, generated by the free gravitational field of the bulk, may provide an explanation for the dynamics of the neutral hydrogen clouds at large distances from the galactic centre, which is usually explained by postulating the existence of the dark matter. In the present paper we consider the asymptotic behaviour…

Weyl fluid dark matter model tested on the galactic scale by weak gravitational lensing
The higher-dimensional Weyl curvature induces on the brane a new source of gravity. This Weyl fluid of geometrical origin (reducing in the spherically symmetric, static configuration to a dark
Dynamical modelling of disc vertical structure in superthin galaxy ‘UGC 7321’ in braneworld gravity: an MCMC study
Low surface brightness (LSBs) superthins constitute classic examples of very late-type galaxies, with their disc dynamics strongly regulated by their dark matter halos. In this work we consider a
Brane-world stars with a solid crust and vacuum exterior
The minimal geometric deformation approach is employed to show the existence of brane-world stellar distributions with a vacuum Schwarzschild exterior, thus without energy leaking from the exterior
Bose-Einstein Condensate Dark Matter Halos confronted with galactic observations
We present a comparative confrontation of both the Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) and the Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) dark halo models with galactic rotation curves and velocity dispersion data. We
Bose-Einstein Condensate Dark Matter Halos confronted with galactic rotation curves
We present a comparative confrontation of both the Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) and the Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) dark halo models with galactic rotation curves. We employ 6 High Surface Brightness
Black strings from minimal geometric deformation in a variable tension brane-world
We study brane-world models with variable brane tension and compute corrections to the horizon of a black string along the extra dimension. The four-dimensional geometry of the black string on the
Modified Gravity Theories and Dark Matter Models Tested by Galactic Rotation Curves
Bose–Einstein condensate dark matter model and Randall–Sundrum type 2 brane-world theory are tested with galactic rotation curves. Analytical expressions are derived for the rotational velocities of
Halo models in modified gravity theories with self-accelerated expansion
We investigate the structure of halos in the sDGP (self-accelerating branch of the Dvali–Gavadadze–Porrati braneworld gravity) model and the Galileon modified gravity model on the basis of the static
The virial theorem and the dark matter problem in hybrid metric-Palatini gravity
Hybrid metric-Palatini gravity is a recently proposed theory, consisting of the superposition of the metric Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian with an f(ℛ) term constructed à la Palatini. The theory

Galactic dark matter as a bulk effect on the brane
The behaviour of the angular velocity of a test particle moving in a stable circular orbit in the vacuum on the brane is considered. In the braneworld scenario, the four-dimensional effective
Galactic rotation curves and brane-world models
In the present investigation, flat rotational curves of the galaxies are considered under the framework of brane-world models where the four-dimensional effective Einstein equation has extra terms
Can the galactic rotation curves be explained in brane world models
We consider solutions with conformal symmetry of the static, spherically symmetric gravitational field equations in the vacuum in the brane world scenario. By assuming that the vector field
Vacuum solutions of the gravitational field equations in the brane world model
We consider some classes of solutions of the static, spherically symmetric gravitational field equations in the vacuum in the brane world scenario, in which our Universe is a three-brane embedded in

Galaxy Rotation Curves without Nonbaryonic Dark Matter
We apply the modified acceleration law obtained from Einstein gravity coupled to a massive skew-symmetric field Fμνλ to the problem of explaining galaxy rotation curves without exotic dark matter.
The Einstein equations on the 3-brane world
We carefully investigate the gravitational equations of the brane world, in which all the matter forces except gravity are confined on the 3-brane in a 5-dimensional spacetime with $Z_2$ symmetry. We

Stars in the braneworld
We show that, in a Randall-Sundrum II type braneworld, the vacuum exterior of a spherical star is not in general a Schwarzschild spacetime, but has radiative-type stresses induced by five-dimensional
