In the brane world scenario the four-dimensional effective Einstein equation has extra source terms, which arise from the embedding of the three-brane in the bulk. These non-local effects, generated by the free gravitational field of the bulk, may provide an explanation for the dynamics of the neutral hydrogen clouds at large distances from the galactic centre, which is usually explained by postulating the existence of the dark matter. In the present paper we consider the asymptotic behaviour…

Weyl fluid dark matter model tested on the galactic scale by weak gravitational lensing
- Physics

The higher-dimensional Weyl curvature induces on the brane a new source of gravity. This Weyl fluid of geometrical origin (reducing in the spherically symmetric, static configuration to a dark…

Low surface brightness (LSBs) superthins constitute classic examples of very late-type galaxies, with their disc dynamics strongly regulated by their dark matter halos. In this work we consider a…

The virial theorem and the dark matter problem in hybrid metric-Palatini gravity
- Physics

Hybrid metric-Palatini gravity is a recently proposed theory, consisting of the superposition of the metric Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian with an f(ℛ) term constructed à la Palatini. The theory…
