Advanced LIGO-Virgo have reported a short gravitational-wave signal (GW190521) interpreted as a quasicircular merger of black holes, one at least populating the pair-instability supernova gap, that formed a remnant black hole of M_{f}∼142  M_{⊙} at a luminosity distance of d_{L}∼5.3  Gpc. With barely visible pre-merger emission, however, GW190521 merits further investigation of the pre-merger dynamics and even of the very nature of the colliding objects. We show that GW190521 is consistent with…

Kerr black holes with synchronised Proca hair: lensing, shadows and EHT constraints

We investigate the gravitational lensing by spinning Proca stars and the shadows and lensing by Kerr black holes (BHs) with synchronised Proca hair, discussing both theoretical aspects and

Eccentric binary black holes: Comparing numerical relativity and small mass-ratio perturbation theory

The modelling of unequal mass binary black hole systems is of high importance to detect and estimate parameters from these systems. Numerical relativity (NR) is well suited to study systems with

Dirac-boson stars

In this paper, we construct Dirac-boson stars (DBSs) model composed of a scalar field and two Dirac fields. The scalar field and both Dirac fields are in the ground state. We consider the solution

Epicyclic Frequencies for a Generic Ultracompact Object

Recently, it has been shown that the radial stability of a light-ring (LR) in a spacetime generated by a stationary, axisymmetric, asymptotically flat object with a Z 2 symmetry determines the

Electromagnetic emission from axionic boson star collisions

We explore the dynamics of boson stars in the presence of axionic couplings through nonlinear evolutions of Einstein’s field equations. We show that, for large axionic couplings, isolated boson stars

Resolving pathology of self-interacting Proca field: a case study of Proca star

It has been argued that a self-interacting massive vector field is pathological due to a dynamical formation of a singular effective metric of the vector field, which is the onset of a gradient or ghost

Resolving the pathologies of self-interacting Proca fields: A case study of Proca stars

It has been argued that a self-interacting massive vector field is pathological due to a dynamical formation of a singular effective metric of the vector field, which is the onset of a gradient or ghost

Compact Binary Coalescences: Astrophysical Processes and Lessons Learned

On 11 February 2016, the LIGO and Virgo scientific collaborations announced the first direct detection of gravitational waves, a signal caught by the LIGO interferometers on 14 September 2015, and

Gravitational wave constraints on extended dark matter structures

. We generalise existing constraints on primordial black holes to dark objects with extended sizes using the aLIGO design sensitivity. We show that LIGO is sensitive to dark objects with radius O (10

On the classicality of bosonic stars

Because the Klein-Gordon and Proca equations involve ~ , they describe quantum fields. Their solutions, however, may be treated as classical if their typical action obeys S typical ≫ ~ . This is
