On May 21, 2019 at 03:02:29 UTC Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo observed a short duration gravitational-wave signal, GW190521, with a three-detector network signal-to-noise ratio of 14.7, and an estimated false-alarm rate of 1 in 4900 yr using a search sensitive to generic transients. If GW190521 is from a quasicircular binary inspiral, then the detected signal is consistent with the merger of two black holes with masses of 85_{-14}^{+21}  M_{⊙} and 66_{-18}^{+17}  M_{⊙} (90% credible…

Properties and Astrophysical Implications of the 150 M ⊙ Binary Black Hole Merger GW190521
The gravitational-wave signal GW190521 is consistent with a binary black hole (BBH) merger source at redshift 0.8 with unusually high component masses, ${85}_{-14}^{+21}$ M ⊙ and ${66}_{-18}^{+17}$ M
Current observations are insufficient to confidently associate the binary black hole merger GW190521 with AGN J124942.3 + 344929
Recently, Graham et al (2020 arXiv:2006.14122) identified ZTF19abanrhr as a candidate electromagnetic counterpart to the binary black hole merger GW190521. The authors argue that the observations are
Find the Gap: Black Hole Population Analysis with an Astrophysically Motivated Mass Function
We introduce a novel black hole mass function that realistically models the physics of pair-instability supernovae with a minimal number of parameters. Applying this to all events in the LIGO-Virgo
Filling the black hole mass gap: Avoiding pair instability in massive stars through addition of nonnuclear energy
In standard stellar evolution, stars with masses ranging from approximately $150$ to $240 M_\odot$ are expected to evolve to a pair instability supernova with no black hole (BH) remnant. This
Search for Gravitational Waves from the Coalescence of Subsolar-Mass Binaries in the First Half of Advanced LIGO and Virgo’s Third Observing Run
TLDR
A search for gravitational waves from the coalescence of subsolar-mass black hole binaries using data from the first half of Advanced LIGO and Virgo's third observing run is presented and limits are demonstrated to constrain arbitrary models of the primordial black hole mass distribution and merger rate.
Lensing by primordial black holes: Constraints from gravitational wave observations
Primordial black holes (PBHs) have been proposed to explain at least a portion of dark matter. Observations have put strong constraints on PBHs in terms of the fraction of dark matter which they can
Cosmic conundra explained by thermal history and primordial black holes
A universal mechanism may be responsible for several unresolved cosmic conundra. The sudden drop in the pressure of relativistic matter at $W^{\pm} / Z^{0}$ decoupling, the quark-hadron transition
Hierarchical Formation Of An Intermediate Mass Black Hole Via Seven Mergers: Implications For GW190521
The gravitational wave event GW190521 involves the merger of two black holes of $\sim 85\text{M}_\odot$ and $\sim 66\text{M}_\odot$ forming an intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH) of mass $\sim
GWTC-2.1: Deep Extended Catalog of Compact Binary Coalescences Observed by LIGO and Virgo During the First Half of the Third Observing Run
The second gravitational-wave transient catalog, GWTC-2, reported on 39 compact binary coalescences observed by the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors between 1 April 2019 15:00 UTC and 1
Active Galactic Nuclei as Factories for Eccentric Black Hole Mergers
Black hole mergers detected by LIGO and Virgo continue delivering transformational discoveries. The most recent example is the merger GW190521, which is the first detected with component masses

Reproducing GW150914: the first observation of gravitational waves from a binary black hole merger
TLDR
This is the first direct detection of gravitational waves and the first observation of a binary black hole merger, and these observations demonstrate the existence of binary stellar-mass black hole systems.
Candidate Electromagnetic Counterpart to the Binary Black Hole Merger Gravitational-Wave Event S190521g.
TLDR
The first plausible optical electromagnetic counterpart to a (candidate) binary black hole merger in the accretion disk of an active galactic nucleus is reported, and a repeat flare in this source due to a reencountering with the disk is predicted.
GW170817: Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Neutron Star Inspiral.
TLDR
The association of GRB 170817A, detected by Fermi-GBM 1.7 s after the coalescence, corroborates the hypothesis of a neutron star merger and provides the first direct evidence of a link between these mergers and short γ-ray bursts.
Binary Black Hole Population Properties Inferred from the First and Second Observing Runs of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo
We present results on the mass, spin, and redshift distributions of the ten binary black hole mergers detected in the first and second observing runs completed by Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo. We
New binary black hole mergers in the second observing run of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo
We report the detection of new binary black hole merger events in the publicly available data from the second observing run of advanced LIGO and advanced Virgo (O2). The mergers were discovered using
2-OGC: Open Gravitational-wave Catalog of Binary Mergers from Analysis of Public Advanced LIGO and Virgo Data
We present the second Open Gravitational-wave Catalog (2-OGC) of compact-binary coalescences, obtained from the complete set of public data from Advanced LIGO's first and second observing runs. For
Search for intermediate mass black hole binaries in the first observing run of Advanced LIGO
During their first observational run, the two Advanced LIGO detectors attained an unprecedented sensitivity, resulting in the first direct detections of gravitational-wave signals produced by
