In this paper, we propose a novel energy saving scheme, named Gossip-based Sleep Protocol (GSP), to achieve energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks. With GSP, each node goes to sleep for some time with some probability and the situations in which most awake nodes stay connected depend on the gossiping probability and the topology of the network.
