Abstract A vector-gauge particle is coupled to the current associated with the broken symmetry in the model of Nambu and Jona-Lasinio in which the symmetry-breaking scalar field is a bilinear combination of fermion fields. The model is treated in the pair approximation. As in models involving the Goldstone bosons as elementary fields, all massless particles are eliminated. The gauge particle absorbs the Goldstone particle to become a massive vector particle.
