GANmapper: geographical data translation
@article{Wu2022GANmapperGD, title={GANmapper: geographical data translation}, author={Abraham Noah Wu and Filip Biljecki}, journal={International Journal of Geographical Information Science}, year={2022} }
We present a new method to create spatial data using a generative adversarial network (GAN). Our contribution uses coarse and widely available geospatial data to create maps of less available features at the finer scale in the built environment, bypassing their traditional acquisition techniques (e.g. satellite imagery or land surveying). In the work, we employ land use data and road networks as input to generate building footprints and conduct experiments in 9 cities around the world. The…

Image-to-Image Translation with Conditional Adversarial Networks
- Computer Science2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR)
- 2017
Conditional adversarial networks are investigated as a general-purpose solution to image-to-image translation problems and it is demonstrated that this approach is effective at synthesizing photos from label maps, reconstructing objects from edge maps, and colorizing images, among other tasks.

A novel, efficient, gradient based method called long short-term memory (LSTM) is introduced, which can learn to bridge minimal time lags in excess of 1000 discrete-time steps by enforcing constant error flow through constant error carousels within special units.
