It is increasingly being appreciated that GABAA receptor subtypes, through their specific regional, cellular and subcellular localization, are linked to distinct neuronal circuits and consequently serve distinct functions. GABAA receptor subtype-selective drugs are therefore expected to provide novel pharmacological profiles.
