Computational models of hippocampal region CA3 were used to study the role of theta rhythm in storage and retrieval of temporal sequences of neuronal activity patterns. Retrieval of multiple overlapping temporal sequences requires a mechanism for disambiguation, e.g., for choosing between two sequences with the same starting pattern but different final patterns (forked sequences).
