This paper presents an effective procedure based on fuzzy logic and the immune algorithm for the placement and sizing of shunt capacitor banks in a distorted power network. In the study, the power-loss index associated with each bus, the root mean square (rms) voltage, the total harmonic voltage distortion at each bus, and the capacitor site suitability are modeled as fuzzy membership functions.
