Effects of Moraxella (Branhamella) ovis Culture Filtrates on Bovine Erythrocytes, Peripheral Mononuclear Cells, and Corneal Epithelial Cells

Data indicate that the M. ovis field isolates examined produce one or more heat-labile exotoxins and may suggest that M. Ovis plays a role in the pathogenesis of IBK.

Análisis de la asociación de Queratoconjuntivitis bovina infecciosa con Herpes Virus Bovino-1, en terneros de tres meses a un año de edad en el Uruguay

According to the results, it is not possible to acertain an existing relationship between the two studied variables, IBK disease and positive serology for BHV-1, corresponding to the risk factor that was considered.

Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis antimicrobial therapy.

Specific recommendations for antimicrobial therapies targeting Australian IBK outbreaks are dependent upon antimicrobial pharmacokinetics, drug regulations and associated costs.

Estimation of Genetic Components Related to Infectious Bovine Keratoconjunctivitis Susceptibility in Angus and Angus Derived Cattle Produced in the Southern United States

The results indicate that genetic improvement through selection of animals which are less susceptible to IBK can be beneficial; however, the overall progress would be rather slow.

Nine lactating dairy cows were evaluated because of eye lesions, and Oxytetracycline treatment led to cure within 2 wk.

Development and evaluation of a multiplex real‐time PCR assay for the detection and differentiation of Moraxella bovis, Moraxella bovoculi and Moraxella ovis in pure culture isolates and lacrimal swabs collected from conventionally raised cattle

Aim:  To develop a multiplex real‐time PCR assay for the detection and differentiation of Moraxella bovis (M. bovis), M. bovoculi and M. ovis.

Treatment of acute ocular Moraxella bovis infections in calves with a parenterally administered long-acting oxytetracycline formulation.

Moraxella bovis was not isolated from any of the eyes of the treatment-group calves for the first 6 days after the antibiotic was administered, but was isolated from 1 eye of 1 treated calf on posttreatment day 7 and daily thereafter, for a total of 14 positive cultures of 160 ocular cultures obtained from the treatment's calves after treatment.

Treatment of Moraxella bovis infections in calves using a long-acting oxytetracycline formulation.

Studies were undertaken to determine the effectiveness of an oxytetracycline HCl formulation for the prophylaxis and treatment of chronic Moraxella bovis ocular infections in calves, which resulted in a lower incidence of keratoconjunctivitis and a decreased duration of bacterial shedding, as compared to controls.

Influence of outdoor winter environment on the course of infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis.

The cattle housed inside had a higher infection rate, a milder disease, and longer duration of infection than did the cattle kept out side, and the stress of the cold weather caused a more severe disease of shorter duration.

Wavelength of ultraviolet radiation that enhances onset of clinical infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis

Evidence is presented to support the contention that the wavelengths which are eliminated by cellulose acetate enhance the course of infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis.

Antimicrobial susceptibility of Moraxella bovis determined by agar disk diffusion and broth microdilution

Quantitative data supported the use of sulfonamides, but not tylosin, for parenteral infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis therapy and a high frequency of susceptibility was recorded for all other antimicrobial agents tested.

The intraocular pressure response is analyzed, and it is suggested that the reduction ratio in the outflow pressure, outflow resistance, and the aqueous formation rate be used for dose-response studies.
