Since the introduction in 1933 (Kluyver and Perquin, 1933) of the shaker flask method of culturing fungi this technique has found widespread use in fungus physiology (Foster, 1949). It was used for spore germination studies by Davies et al. (1948) and Mandels and Norton (1948). The measurement of antifungal activity, however, has been accomplished by the more conventional methods making use of agar plates, hanging drops, moist chambers, and more elaborate techniques (Horsfall, 1946). Soil Burial of Fabrics Treated with Minimal Concentrations of Fungicides
Strips of cotton duck were treated with low concentrations of fourteen commercial and experimental fungicides and subjected to a soil burial test. Comparative effective ness of the compounds wasExpand
Effect of Trans, Trans-Farnesol on Pseudogymnoascus destructans and Several Closely Related Species
TLDR
The sesquiterpene trans, trans-farnesol, which is also a Candidaalbicans quorum sensing compound, prevented in vitro conidial germination for at least 14 days and inhibited growth of preexisting hyphae of five P. destructans isolates in filtered potato dextrose broth at 10 °C. Expand
Biosynthesis of an antifungal oligopeptide in Burkholderia contaminans strain MS14.
TLDR
Results show that strain MS14 possesses a novel set of genes dedicated to the biosynthesis of an antifungal oligopeptide, which consists of amino acid residues having a molecular weight of 1200.6 Da. Expand

A Method for Estimating Percentage Germination of Fungal Spores
TLDR
Methods previously used for estimating the percentage germination of fungal spores have involved hanging-drop or slide cultures, though it may be argued that for pathological work they simulate those existing on the surface of fruits and leaves. Expand
