By intensive study of the perpendicular magnetic recording integration into the 2.5" 50-80 GB/platter test hard disk drives (HDD), we have successfully developed the first 1.8" 40 GB/platter HDD product featuring the perpendicular magnetic recording technology at 133 Gbit/in/sup 2/ recording density. The high resolution recording performance enabled us to pack more data in the BPI direction than in the TPI direction.
