The establishment and maintenance of centromeric heterochromatin in fission yeast require the RITS complex. Comprised of centromeric siRNAs, the chromodomain protein Chp1, Argonaute (Ago1), and Tas3, RITS couples the cellular RNAi pathway with assembly of constitutive heterochromatin.
