The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) mediates dioxin (2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin)-induced transcriptional activation of a battery of genes by interaction with a cofactor, called aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator (ARNT) protein.
