Pyrophilous (‘fire-loving‘) insects depend on forest fires for their reproduction. Therefore, such insects approach ongoing fires and invade the freshly burnt area immediately. In beetles members of two genera of jewel beetles (Buprestidae) and one species of the genus Acanthocnemus (Acanthocnemidae) show a highly pyrophilous behaviour.
