In the Gondar region of Ethiopia, a study was conducted which examined the role of traditional birth attendants in the health care of mother and child, as opposed to modern medical practitioners, and the effects of training on the success of these attendants. 855 women who gave birth in the year before training of the attendants and 861 women who gave birth in the year after training were compared.
