In this paper we review different approaches for scheduling projects in multi-project environments. We show the evolution of the methodologies from the Resource Constrained Project Scheduling Problem to the Decentralized Resource Constrained Multi-Project Scheduling Problem. We argue that traditional methods used in project scheduling cannot cope with the complexity of current real portfolios performed by project-based organizations.
