The protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi invades a wide variety of vertebrate cells, by a mechanism distinct from phagocytosis. No pseudopods or other host cell surface alterations are observed during trypanosome entry, and invasion is enhanced after actin filaments are disrupted with cytochalasin D.
