The strong version of Maldacena's AdS/CFT conjecture implies that the large-N expansion of free = 4 super-YM theory describes an interacting string theory in the extreme limit of high spacetime curvature relative to the string length. String states may then be understood as composed of SYM string bits. We investigate part of the low-lying spectrum of the tensionless (zero-coupling) limit and find a large number of states that are not present in the infinite tension (strong-coupling) limit…

String Dual to Free N=4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory.

Quite remarkably, it is found that this prescription reproduces precisely the entire planar spectrum-of single trace operators-of the free supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory.

Gauge/gravity duality beyond the planar limit

One of the most exciting and successful ideas pursued in string theory is gauge/gravity duality. We consider the example of the AdS/CFT correspondence, which maps maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills

Higher spin theories in AdS3 and a gravitational exclusion principle

We consider theories of three dimensional quantum gravity in Anti-de Sitter space which possess massless higher-spin gauge symmetry. The perturbative spectrum of the theory includes higher spin

One-loop test of free SU(N ) adjoint model holography

We consider the holographic duality where the CFT side is given by SU(N ) adjoint free scalar field theory. Compared to the vector models, the set of single trace operators is immensely extended so

On the worldsheet theories of strings dual to free large N gauge theories

We analyze in detail some properties of the worldsheet of the closed string theories suggested by Gopakumar to be dual to free large N SU(N) gauge theories (with adjoint matter fields). We use

BPS Operators and Brane Geometries

In this thesis we explore the finite N spectrum of BPS operators in four-dimensional supersymmetric conformal field theories (CFT), which have dual AdS gravitational descriptions. In the first part

Notes On Higher Spin Symmetries

The strong form of the AdS/CFT correspondence implies that the leading $N$ expressions for the connected correlation functions of the gauge invariant operators in the free ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric
