At a nonzero temperature T, a constant field A¯0∼T/g generates nontrivial eigenvalues of the thermal Wilson line. We discuss contributions to the free energy of such a holonomous plasma when the coupling constant, g, is weak. We review the computation to ∼g2 by several alternate methods, and show that gauge invariant sources, which are nonlinear in the gauge potential A0, generate novel contributions to the gluon self-energy at ∼g2. These ensure the gluon self-energy remains transverse to ∼g2…

$$A_0$$-condensation in quark-gluon plasma with finite baryon density

In the present paper, we return to the problem of spontaneous generation of the $$A_0$$ A 0 -background field in QCD at finite temperature and a quark chemical potential, $$\mu $$ μ . On the

Resummed gluon propagator and Debye screening effect in a holonomous plasma

In the double line basis, we compute the resummed gluon propagator in a holonomous plasma which is described by introducing a constant background field for the vector potential A0. Due to the

Gravitational waves from dark Yang-Mills sectors

Abstract Dark Yang-Mills sectors, which are ubiquitous in the string landscape, may be reheated above their critical temperature and subsequently go through a confining first-order phase transition

The real time hard-thermal-loop gluon self-energy in a semi-quark-gluon plasma

In the real time formalism of the finite-temperature field theory, we compute the one-loop gluon self-energy in a semi-quark-gluon plasma (QGP) where a background filed Q has been introduced for the

Wilson loops in the Hamiltonian formalism

In a gauge theory, the gauge invariant Hilbert space is unchanged by the coupling to arbitrary local operators. In the presence of Wilson loops, though, the physical Hilbert space must be enlarged by

Polyakov loop eigenvalues in the presence of baryon chemical potential

The eigenvalues of the Polyakov loop are calculated in the strong coupled lattice QCD at finite tempera ture. This is done both in the pure gauge theory and in the theory with heavy quarks at finite

QCD and instantons at finite temperature

The current understanding of the behavior of quantum chromodynamics at finite temperature is presented. Perturbative methods are used to explore the high-temperature dynamics. At sufficiently high

QCD with chemical potential in a small hyperspherical box

To leading order in perturbation theory, we solve QCD, defined on a small three sphere in the large N and Nf limit, at finite chemical potential and map out the phase diagram in the (μ, T) plane. The

Weak coupling large-N transitions at finite baryon density

A bstractWe study thermodynamics of free SU(N) gauge theory with a large number of colours and flavours on a three-sphere, in the presence of a baryon number chemical potential. Reducing the system

Hard thermal loops, to quadratic order, in the background of a spatial 't Hooft loop

We compute the simplest hard thermal loops for a spatial 't Hooft loop in the deconfined phase of a SU(N) gauge theory. We expand to quadratic order about a constant background field A{sub 0}=Q/g,

Phases of circle-compactified QCD with adjoint fermions at finite density

We study chemical-potential dependence of confinement and mass gap in QCD with adjoint fermions in spacetime with one spatial compact direction. By calculating the one-loop effective potential for

Finite-temperature phase transitions of third and higher order in gauge theories at large $N$

We study phase transitions in $SU(\infty)$ gauge theories at nonzero temperature using matrix models. Our basic assumption is that the effective potential is dominated by double trace terms for the

An effective gluon potential and hybrid approach to Yang-Mills thermodynamics

We derive the partition function for the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory in the presence of a uniform gluon field within the background field method. We show, that the $n$-body gluon contributions in the
