The isolation of persicogenin [1], velutin [2] and (2S) 5,3',4' trihydroxy-7-methoxyflavanone [3] and homoeriodictyol [4] from Rhus retinorrhoea (Anacardiaceae) is reported. The antimicrobial activity of the isolated compounds was studied. [1] and [2] were found devoid of any antimicrobial activity while [3] and [4] had weak activity (MIC; 200 µg/ml against Streptococcus faecalis and 300 µg/ml against Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, the LC 50 of the pure compounds were determined using the… Expand
Biological Properties and Absolute Configuration of Flavanones From Calceolaria thyrsiflora Graham
TLDR
Biological tests revealed that only flavanone 2 exhibited a moderate inhibitory activity against the methicillin-resistant strain S. aureus MRSA 97-77, which supports the traditional use of this plant as an anti-inflammatory in diseases of the respiratory tract. Expand
Anticancer efficacies of persicogenin and homoeriodictyol isolated from Rhus retinorrhoea
Abstract Herein we examined two flavanones (persicogenin and homoeriodictyol) isolated from Rhus retinorrhoea to elucidate the mechanism of their anticancer effects in MCF-7, HeLa, and HT-29 cells.Expand
A weakly antimalarial biflavanone from Rhus retinorrhoea.
TLDR
7-O-Methylnaringenin showed weak antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans, C. krusei, Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium smegmatis, M. intracellulare, and M. xenopi with MIC approximately 100 microg/ml. Expand
A new benzofuran from Artemisia halodendron Turcz. ex Bess.
TLDR
A new benzofuran, methyl (2S,2″S,3′E)-[2-(1″-acetoxypropan-2-yl)-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-5-yl]acrylate was isolated from an ethanol extract of Artemisia halodendron Turcz and its chemical structures were determined by NMR and spectra and results were compared with data from the literature. Expand
Biomedical Applications of Scutellaria edelbergii Rech. f.: In Vitro and In Vivo Approach
TLDR
The EtOAc fraction and all other fractions of S. edelbergii, in general, displayed a significant role as antibacterial, free radical scavenger, anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents which may be due to the presence of these constituents and other flavonoids. Expand
A study of the trypanocidal and analgesic properties from Lychnophora granmongolense (Duarte) Semir & Leitão Filho
TLDR
The bioassay‐guided fractionation of this extract yielded three trypanocidal compounds: the sesquiterpene lactones centratherin (lychnophorolide A) and goyazensolide and the flavonoid eriodictyol. Expand
O-demethylation and sulfation of 7-methoxylated flavanones by Cunninghamella elegans.
TLDR
Homoeriodictyol (5, 7, 4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxyflavanone) and homoeriodicytol-7-sulfate were established by spectral analysis including 2D-NMR, HR-ESI-FT-MS beside hydrolysis by acid. Expand
In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity and Cytotoxicity Test of Native South Dakota Plant Extracts

Biosynthesis of homoeriodictyol from eriodictyol by flavone 3'-O-methyltransferase from recombinant Yarrowia lioplytica: Heterologous expression, biochemical characterization, and optimal transformation.
TLDR
Compared to the traditional plant extraction or chemical synthesis, the biotransformation approach generates less environmental pollution and has a great potential for the sustainable production of homoeriodictyol. Expand
Simultaneous Quantification of Two Bioactive Flavonoids, Homoeriodictyol and Persicogenin, in the Methanol Extract of the Aerial Parts of Two Different Species of Genus Rhus by a Validated High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatographic—Densitometric Method
