OBJECTIVE Our purpose was to identify factors indicative of a high fracture risk during the disease course of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS In 1110 patients (879 women and 231 men) with RA from five Arthritis, Rheumatism and Aging Medical Information System centers, information from history, clinical and laboratory examination, outcome assessment, and therapy was evaluated for association with the 226 first fractures having occurred during the years from 1975 to 1988.
