SiC5 in its (3)Σ ground state has been produced by trapping the products from the laser evaporation of a sintered silicon-carbon rod in solid Ar. For the first time a vibrational fundamental has been measured, the ν4(σ) asymmetric stretch at 936.9 ± 0.2 cm(-1).
