SUMMARY The recent epidemic of chikungunya fever (2005–2006) in India has affected millions of people. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, an archipelago situated in the Bay of Bengal 1200 km from peninsular India, also witnessed an outbreak of chikungunya fever starting in July 2006 which affected thousands of people. Chikungunya fever classically manifests as high fever, myalgia, arthralgia and arthritis and in a certain percentage of cases with maculopapular rashes. However, deviation from the…
Chikungunya fever: an epidemiological review of a re-emerging infectious disease.
TLDR
The epidemiology and global expansion of CHIKV is characterized, the clinical features and laboratory testing for the disease are described, and priorities for further studies needed for effective disease control and prevention are discussed.
Chikungunya: an overview
TLDR
This review describes CHIK in general and highlights the various clinico-pathological aspects observed during the recent outbreak of this mosquito borne debilitating disease in India.
Chikungunya infection in children
TLDR
Children are among the group at maximum risk for severe manifestations of the disease and some clinical features in this group are distinct from those seen in adults, and NSAIDS may be required for relief of severe arthralgia during convalescent phase.
Chikungunya fever.
A Study on Correlation of Clinical Features with Serodiagnosis and Molecular Charactrisation of Chikungunya.
TLDR
This study studied the incidence, clinical presentation and molecular characterisation of chikungunya virus in patients presenting with fever and arthralgia in Government General Hospital, Chennai to determine the serotype by RT-PCR.

Chikungunya epidemic: an Indian perspective.
TLDR
The chikungunya virus is characterized by high fever, severe arthralgia and rash and viral diagnostics can be used to confirm the infection, but these tests are not accessible during outbreaks to the majority of the population.
Genome Microevolution of Chikungunya Viruses Causing the Indian Ocean Outbreak
TLDR
The results indicate that the chikungunya virus outbreak was initiated by a strain related to East-African isolates, from which viral variants have evolved following a traceable microevolution history and may be due to adaptation to the mosquito vector.
Chikungunya Fever, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India

TLDR
Phylogenic analysis based on partial sequences of NS4 and E1 genes showed that all earlier isolates (1963–1973) were Asian genotype, whereas the current and Yawat (2000) isolates were African genotype.
