We have determined the detailed star formation history and total mass of the globular clusters in the Fornax dwarf spheroidal using archival HST WFPC2 data. Colour magnitude diagrams are constructed in the F555W and F814W bands and corrected for the effect of Fornax field star contamination, after which we use the routine Talos to derive the quantitative star formation history as a function of age and metallicity. The star formation history of the Fornax globular clusters shows that Fornax 1, 2…

Spectroscopic Confirmation of the Sixth Globular Cluster in the Fornax Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy

The Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy has an anomalous number of globular clusters, five, for its stellar mass. There is a longstanding debate about a potential sixth globular cluster (Fornax 6) that

Is Fornax 4 the nuclear star cluster of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy?

Fornax 4 is the most distinctive globular cluster in the Fornax dwarf spheroidal. Located close to the centre of the galaxy, more metal-rich and potentially younger than its four companions

The Most Metal-poor Stars in Omega Centauri (NGC 5139)

The most massive and complex globular clusters in the Galaxy are thought to have originated as the nuclear cores of now tidally disrupted dwarf galaxies, but the connection between globular clusters

The survival of globular clusters in a cuspy Fornax

It has long been argued that the globular clusters (GCs) in the Fornax dwarf galaxy indicate that its dark matter halo is likely to have a shallow density profile with a core of size ∼1 kpc. We

Limits on the significant mass-loss scenario based on the globular clusters of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy

Many of the scenarios proposed to explain the origin of chemically peculiar stars in globular clusters (GCs) require significant mass loss (>= 95 per cent) to explain the observed fraction of such

A dwarf–dwarf merger and dark matter core as a solution to the globular cluster problems in the Fornax dSph

The five globular clusters (GCs) of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy are puzzling for two reasons; the mass in GCs is high with respect to the galaxy’s old stellar mass and their survival and

GLOBULAR CLUSTER ABUNDANCES FROM HIGH-RESOLUTION, INTEGRATED-LIGHT SPECTROSCOPY. II. EXPANDING THE METALLICITY RANGE FOR OLD CLUSTERS AND UPDATED ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES

We present abundances of globular clusters (GCs) in the Milky Way and Fornax from integrated-light (IL) spectra. Our goal is to evaluate the consistency of the IL analysis relative to standard

Fornax globular cluster distributions: implications for the cusp-core problem

We re-investigate the Fornax cusp-core problem using observational results on the spatial and mass distributions of globular clusters (GCs) in order to put constraints on the dark matter profile. We

Embedding globular clusters in dark matter minihaloes solves the cusp–core and timing problems in the Fornax dwarf galaxy

We use a fully GPU N-body code to demonstrate that dark matter (DM) minihaloes, as a new component of globular clusters (GCs), resolve both the timing and cusp–core problems in Fornax if the (five

The WAGGS project – II. The reliability of the calcium triplet as a metallicity indicator in integrated stellar light

Using data from the WiFeS Atlas of Galactic Globular cluster Spectra, we study the behaviour of the calcium triplet (CaT), a popular metallicity indicator in extragalactic stellar population studies.

Constraints on mass loss and self-enrichment scenarios for the globular clusters of the Fornax dSph

Recently, high-dispersion spectroscopy has demonstrated conclusively that four of the five globular clusters (GCs) in the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy are very metal-poor with [Fe/H]<−2. The

The star formation and chemical evolution history of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy

We have combined deep photometry in the B, V and I bands from CTIO/MOSAIC of the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy, going down to the oldest main sequence turn-offs, with spectroscopic metallicity

Evidence for a chemical enrichment coupling of globular clusters and field stars in the Fornax dSph

The globular cluster H4, located in the center of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy, is crucial for understanding the formation and chemical evolution of star clusters in low-mass galactic

VLT/UVES spectroscopy of individual stars in three globular clusters in the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy

We present a high resolution ( R similar to 43 000) abundance analysis of a total of nine stars in three of the five globular clusters associated with the nearby Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy. These

A Deep Survey of the Fornax dSph. I. Star Formation History

Based on a deep imaging survey, we present the first homogeneous star formation history (SFH) of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxy. We have obtained two-filter photometry to a depth of B ∼ 23

The Ages of the Globular Clusters in the Fornax Dwarf Galaxy

From observations with the Hubble Space Telescope, color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) have been constructed for the four most metal-poor globular clusters in the Fornax dSph galaxy. These diagrams

The Chemical Enrichment History of the Fornax Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy from the Infrared Calcium Triplet

Spatial dependence of the star formation history in the central regions of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy

Spectroscopy of Globular Clusters in the Fornax Dwarf Galaxy

We present low-resolution, integrated Keck spectra of the five globular clusters (GCs) of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy. We find a tentative age spread among the clusters, with the GC H5 younger
