Fossum -active Pixel Sensors Active Pixel Sensors

  title={Fossum -active Pixel Sensors Active Pixel Sensors},
  author={Eric R. Fossum},
A new type of image sensor is emerging from the most advanced image sensor R&D laboratories in Japan. This sensor, termed an active pixel sensor (APS), may one day supplant charge-coupled devices (CCDs) in many applications. The charge-coupled device relies on the shifting of charge to read out the image. The active pixel sensor acts like a random access memory (RAM) device wherein each pixel contains its own selection and readout transistors. The readout of the signal takes place then over…

This paper proposes a toolkit implemented with MATLAB that can help the student to find out the architecture of an active pixel sensor imager and with such approach, student is able to easily control, visualize and understand how an image is elaborated.

A 250 k-pixel SIT image sensor operating in its high-sensitivity mode
A solid-state imaging device which uses a static induction transistor (SIT) is examined. The image sensor consists of 530(H)*490(V) pixels and is suitable for a 2/3-in optical format. An analysis of
BCMD-An improved photosite structure for high-density image sensors
The author describes a new improved photosite structure and its use in a new image sensor that has been developed for applications requiring high-density pixel integration. The new photosite employs
Design of bipolar imaging devices (BASIS): analysis of random noise
A design methodology for a bipolar imaging device, the base-stored image sensor (BASIS), has been established by theoretical analysis and experimental verification for random noise. The random noise
A small pixel CMD image sensor
A charge modulation device (CMD) imager with pixel dimensions of 7.3 mu m(H)*7.6 mu m(V) was designed, fabricated, and examined. These pixel dimensions are suitable for an HDTV imager with a 1-in
