BACKGROUND Molecular mechanisms underlying stress tolerance and vulnerability are incompletely understood. The fosB gene is an attractive candidate for regulating stress responses, because ΔFosB, an alternative splice product of the fosB gene, accumulates after repeated stress or antidepressant treatments.
