The relationship between exogenous or endogenous nitric oxide and c-fos, an immediate-early gene which can further activate the production of other substances in the central nervous system, was investigated in this study. We found that Fos expression is increased after intradermal capsaicin injection, which also leads to endogenous nitric oxide release in the spinal cord.
