Forward mutations were induced by N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) at different stages of a light-dark synchronized cell cycle in Chlamydomonas reinharidi. The highest mutation frequencies were observed at two different times one of which corresponded to the nuclear DNA synthesis period. It was also shown that the number of colonies per plate was able to greatly affect the recovery of certain types of mutants; this warns us to be cautious when comparing the activity of MNNG at the… CONTINUE READING
