Formation of millisecond pulsars with long orbital periods by accretion-induced collapse of white-dwarfs

title={Formation of millisecond pulsars with long orbital periods by accretion-induced collapse of white-dwarfs},
author={Bo Wang and Dongdong Liu and Hai-liang Chen},
Accretion-induced collapse (AIC) of massive white-dwarfs (WDs) has been proposed as an important way for the formation of neutron star (NS) systems. An oxygen-neon (ONe) WD that accretes H-rich material from a red-giant (RG) star may experience the AIC process, eventually producing millisecond pulsars (MSPs), known as the RG donor channel. Previous studies indicate that this channel can only account for MSPs with orbital periods > 500 d. It is worth noting that some more MSPs with wide orbits…

Resolving the Peak of the Black Hole Mass Spectrum

Gravitational-wave (GW) detections of binary black hole (BH) mergers have begun to sample the cosmic BH mass distribution. The evolution of single stellar cores predicts a gap in the BH mass

An Overview of Compact Star Populations and Some of Its Open Problems

The study of compact object populations has come a long way since the determination of the mass of the Hulse–Taylor pulsar, and we now count on more than 150 known Galactic neutron stars and black

A Systematic Search for Short-period Close White Dwarf Binary Candidates Based on Gaia EDR3 Catalog and Zwicky Transient Facility Data

Galactic short-period close white dwarf binaries (CWDBs) are important objects for space-borne gravitational-wave (GW) detectors in the millihertz frequency bands. Due to the intrinsically low

Physics of relativistic objects in compact binaries: from birth to coalescence

This book provides a comprehensive, authoritative and timely review of the astrophysical approach to the investigation of gravity theories. Particular attention is paid to strong-field tests of
